Re-Editing Blog: Sending back

Image
Receiving the film I was supposed to edit was kind of exciting. It was also a bit nerve-wracking. When I put the footage into my editing software, I was shocked. There weren't any captions. I started freaking out a bit. Without those captions the film wasn't complete. It was messed up. So, I had to send a message to my partner. I asked her to send the film with the captions or to redo it. She sent the one with the captions. It was a bummer, but I had to send the film back. I needed the captions before I could do anything else. Waiting for the fixed version was tough, but I knew getting it right was super important for the movie's quality. Finally, they sent it back with the captions, and it was a relief. I was good to edit and i did so. Adding those captions helped to show the credits of the people in the film. It taught me how important it is to talk things out and pay attention to the little details when making a film. Putting the final touches on the film made me realiz...

Re-Editing Blog: Fixing the issues

Image
Hi blog. After the feedback I had some work to do. I went to edit again. I had to search hard for the video. The flashdrive was hidden so I couldn't find it. I had to watch a video on how to find it. After I found it I looked for what the feedback said to fix. I  couldn't find it so I had to call the groupchat. They assisted me in finding the bad part in the video. I found the issue and I was struggling to find the audio. I listened really carefully to the parts my friend pointed out as having issues. Then, I used the tools in the software to find those spots and fix them up. I looked at the wave item to see where the sound was off in volume or not clear. I adjusted things like the volume and used tricks to get rid of some background noise. I also messed with the settings to make voices clearer. This helped make the film even better!  The software has cool features, so I added some more elements and things to the film, like making the sound more even throughout the proje...

Peer Review

Image
We got two people to critique our blog. They had nothing negative to say and thought that it was really good. Our filming journey has been a rollercoaster of creativity. We included collaboration with my groupmates. We had many unexpected challenges. As a team, we navigated the process of bringing our vision to life on screen. We faced the hurdles of many ideas. We worked hard even if we couldn't meet in person. We had unique circumstance of virtual editing over FaceTime. The title sequence and opening shot became focal points of our film, and despite settling on a font, last-minute considerations made us think that we needed to refilm. Choosing her house as a backdrop was a positive choice. It had the bet space we needed and the items tht we needed. Crucial film details made a sense of personal touch but also led to a realization about the nature of the project. Unearthing the requirement to create a true opening sequence, added a layer of frustration but sparked innovative proble...

Editing Additions

Image
We re-edited quite a bit of content for editing. To start with, my initial plan was to modify our sequence. I edited as I promised. Mai'lyia edited the movie on Alight Motion, but we eventually moved to Danvinci Resolve. Using a split screen at the start of the movie was another thing we adjusted. That's the reason Ludji and Mai'lyia were facing each other the way they would if they were face to face. The screen was split to indicate that they were in different locations. The video clips in which they were conversing were also cut. It was clear from the lengthy gaps in between each exchange that they weren't actually speaking on the phone. I realized how long the videos were, so I cut them. The film's title was another item we revised. We used a typeface named "horror," however that font wasn't there on the website we utilized, as I noted in my blog post regarding titles and fonts. Additionally, I had to change the title because there is a s...

The Filming Struggles

Image
Regarding re-filming our opening sequence, we didn't do a lot of it. We did consider re-filming once we quickly realized that we had made a small mistake. But with February almost over, we reasoned that we wouldn't have enough time to even reshoot. A few segments of our opening sequence were re-filmed. For example, re-filming the scenario if there was background noise or if someone laughed. We had to re-film a scene once since we decided not to use my camera after all. The quality of the camera was excellent, and it seemed like the greatest option for use. But my camera was almost out of battery. So, we had to reshoot the scene in which Ludji is speaking to me on the phone. The exterior of her house is probably where we would re-film if we had to. It was still fairly light outside when she took this video of my house. This movie is set in what feels like an evening or dusk. Presenting the house in its brightest light could potentially confuse viewers. Maybe they'll reali...

Music Blog: Music Selection

Image
We selected to use royalty-free music for our song. We sort of took our time choosing the music. If we had chosen a song by a singer/artist, it would have taken far too long for them to get back to us. I quickly looked up eerie royalty-free music so that we could choose this. Many possibilities surfaced for this. I simply selected the first option that appeared or that I saw. Because there were different sounds in this video, it was really excellent. The video lasted for an hour. I simply flipped through the videos to find my favorite. I thought the first one was the best. I then sent a message to our group's group chat. Mai'lyia and Ludji both mentioned how much they enjoyed the first one. We choose to employ the first one as a result. It was a very tense and unsettling sound that would undoubtedly make someone uneasy. The sound was referred to as "Deafening Silence." It actually did, in my opinion, fit the tone of our initial scene. Using this one made a lot of sen...

Editing Blog: Setbacks

Image
We started editing. Editing our film proved to be quite challenging as we grappled with differing opinions on its direction. Complicating matters further, we edited the film over FaceTime, hindering our ability to collaborate face-to-face. We were having issues understanding what as required. Initially, we deliberated on the title sequence and the opening shot, having already settled on the font but entertaining some last-minute ideas. Unfortunately, these last-minute ideas were non-negotiable due to their prior mention in our blogs. We decided to feature Mai'lyia's in part of the film, showcasing details like the title, actors, and production company. However, an unexpected realization during editing added to our frustration. The instructions specified that we were creating an opening sequence for a movie, emphasizing the challenge of capturing the essence of a film's beginning. This, particularly frustrating for me as the one who discovered it, led to the need for adjustm...

Editing Blog: Things Switched

Image
Therefore, while not entirely incorrect, we completed the last task's filming portion incorrectly. The movie is meant to be a movie's opening scene. Rather than that, we filmed an entire short film. They gave me permission to modify this time as I had a fix request. They provided me with assistance when I needed it. But since I claimed to have Davinci Resolve, we decided it would be better for me to edit the movie. Mai'lyia captured a scene outside her home, which we were in need of. I think I will be the one to combine the footage to make it appear like an opening scene. This is done with the intention of not giving away the entire storyline or content. As I chose the fonts, I will provide the text, titles, and information about production and editing. Ludji agreed that it would be better if we skipped over the portion of the phone conversation that involved her and me. While the opening process should only last a minimum of one minute and fifty-seven seconds, this...

Filming Blog: Finishing the process

Image
Our filming process took two weekends. During the initial weekend, we weren't confused but rather uncertain about how to kick off the project. We filmed a segment, engaged in discussions, and further strategized the film's beginning. The next weekend, Ludji and me headed to Mai'lyia's house, where we successfully completed all filming activities. Originally considering Mai'lyia's camera, we opted for an alternative approach. During the prior weekend, the camera was almost out of power. Additionally, transferring videos to my phone for proper merging and editing proved to be a lengthy and intricate task. Consequently, we chose Ludji's iPhone 11 for filming, benefitting from its cinematic feature. This decision yielded impressive quality, boasting smooth movements and excellent lighting. However, scenes filmed in darkness had slightly lower quality and noticeable graininess. While acknowledging the film's dark theme, I desired a slightly better visual out...

Filming Blog: The Beginning!

Image
To be honest, filming was enjoyable and fairly simple. Ludji and I spent the weekend at Mai'Lyia's house so we could shoot. It was easy but challenging at the same time as we were filming. Being videotaped can be uncomfortable at times, but also funny. To get an outstanding video, we had to reshoot a lot of the scenes. We spent almost three hours filming the video which felt like a longer time. Many times, background noise or someone laughing would cause the scenes to sound off, so we would have to start over. We shot in a variety of locations across Mai'lyia's house. We filmed in, the living room, kitchen, back of the home, her room, her sister's room, and her brother's room. The laundry room and dryer in the back of the house served as the primary location or scene for the video. To add even more of an unsettling atmosphere, recordings were made at the back. We also waited to film till it was darker because we needed some darkness during the filming. Ludji wa...

Planning Blog: Title Design

Image
Fonts:  For the main title of the video we will use a font called “horror” to give the title more effect and make it stand out more. We thought this font was cool and worth using because it gives the effect of a scary/eerie movie. The beginning of the letters have ink that’s like being somewhat “poured out” or “leaking” from the letter which also gives off that effect as well. The font color is also a dark black which gives scary vibes as well, given that’s it’s not a colorful or bright color.  The next font we’ll use for the sub titles such as the actors names, directors, etc. This font will be less eye catching toward the viewers because it’s just like sub headings. The main title is supposed to catch the viewer attention the most. So for the next font we’ll just  use ‘ This font’  for these titles. It’s not as eye catching as the first one, yet it’ll still leave the viewers curious about the actors/directors. Contrast:     Color- The color of the ...

Title Research: The Conjuring

Image
  - What titles are displayed during the opening sequence? Titles that are displayed in the opening sequence are the names the director and who the movie is written by. Other titles that are shown are the family names of actors that played in the movie, such as The Peron Family and The Warren Family. It also shows the companies that have made the film or partnered in helping make the film. What images are prioritized in the opening sequence? Images that are prioritized in the film are what I assume the victims or actual people the event happened to. The Conjuring is based on a true story so, many pictures of families I think, and pieces of newspapers when the event happened are also shown. The house of where the movie takes place at is also shown. How does the film establish a feeling of the genre? At the beginning of the film, the music is the first thing that is heard and is eerie. The enticing music sets the tone for the film given its a scary/horror movie. The music really buil...

Title Research: Dead Silence

Image
What titles are displayed during the opening sequences?  At first the opening sequence gives sentences of a little context. Some about history and definitions. Then it moves on to give it's credits such as "Universal Presents". It also puts a title of what production is it. Finally it gets to the title of the movie with a red, bold, and unique font. In the same font, peoples names show up and we can infer those are the actors names. Credits show up as well.  What images are prioritized in the opening sequence?  The first image is a black and gold design with images with text on it.  Then in a pitch black setting, someone lights a candle. Then it cuts to someone flipping a book. You then start to see this person creating a doll.  How does the film establish a feeling of the genre?  The music from the very beginning has an eerie undertone to it. It helps to build the suspense of what it going to happen next making the storyline for mysterious. The ligh...

Title Research: Art of the Title Website

Image
I am researching this site because it has a lot of useful information. As I was navigating through it, I was learning new things. It is also very easy to navigate. It isn't complicated and has many resources. It uses bold font to highlight the important things on this website. There are videos that are also useful. The quality on the videos are clear, and the volume is good. The website has many videos so we can't run out of them. They have lists of many movie directors, so if my group likes the way a director films, we can access the films that the director makes. My group will never get tired of this website, given that it has many positive elements.

Title Research: Braindead (1992)

What titles are displayed during the opening sequence? Titles that are displayed in the opening sequence are the title sequence names the director and who the movie was made by. Other titles that are shown are the names of actors that played in the movie. It also shows the people who made the music and other elements in the movie. What images are prioritized in the opening sequence? Images that are prioritized in the film are army planes and I assume that it is at an army base. It also cuts to a town and a candy shop.  How does the film establish a feeling of the genre? At the beginning of the film, the first thing that is shown is someone getting hit and a horror type music is played. The creepy music sets the tone for the film because its a horror movie. The music sets the scene and builds the suspense for the movie. The title shown has blood dripping down from it and that shows that the film has a creepy, violent feeling.
